Union is the thirteenth studio album by English progressive rock band Yes, released on 30 April 1991 by Arista Records. Production began following the amalgamation of two bands featuring current and previous members of Yes at the time: Yes, consisting of Chris Squire, Trevor Rabin, Tony Kaye, and Alan White and Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe ABWH, consisting of Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman, and Bill Bruford. Yes - Union review: Yes try standing up and get halfway there. What makes Union unsuccessful as an album is simply the same thing that fuelled its existence: the uneven combination of Yes musicians from two radically different eras. The two didnt match for obvious reasons, and created a lengthy, quite messy collection of songs that mostly range from half-hearted progressive tracks to poppy tunes that were, once again, stretched to a fault. Theres a few gems around that save the record from being poor altogether. With its lovely harmonies, I Would Have Waited Forever would have been perfect for 90125 , while Shock to the System manages to actually rock a. Rick Wakeman called 1991 Yes album 'Union' a disgrace but said he'd enjoyed the tour, in October 2019. The LP was the result of two different lineups of Yes collaborating as a single eight-member unit, using material from the albums each lineup had been in the process of making. It was a commercial success but remains unpopular among most of the musicians involved. It was nuts We went nuts, keyboardist Wakeman told Rolling Stone in a recent interview. I called it the Onion album because it made me cry. When I heard it, I thought, This isnt Yes. We didnt play that. We didnt do that. Yes - Miracle of Life 7:30. The material is reasonably solid, and under ordinary circumstances this album would have been considered just fine, if not exceptional. But the single also only limped to number 86 on the Hot 100, and although the album shot to number 15 and went gold, this was a serious falloff from previous sales. Read full description. With the exception of Peter Banks and Trevor Horn, virtually all the major contributors to Yes in its various incarnations over the previous 23 years, including both of its drummers, threw their hands into the making of Union, which was supported by a massive tour that filled arenas with at least two generations of fans. So even if Union had been as good as one hoped, this was an album that couldn't possibly have met the expectations inherent in the array of talent involved.
