The album was produced by former Velvet Underground bassist John Cale, and was rumored to have been half-written the night before the first recording session. It was a commercial and critical failure at the time, despite introducing the world to what would become one of the most influential bands in rock history. The Stooges Q&A. Album 1969 8 Songs. Vinyl Me Please just announced the Cale mixes as one of their albums of the month. Unfortunately you have to commit to a three month subscription ($81) to get it. I guess I'll take my chances here.
i have one copy with the first press matrix ...A CP-1 SS41 with no extra etchings but with 'ths stooges' on the label, i think it's equal with the one without the band name on label, also with the inner sleeve (tan E or black), it's factory work could be swaped, the matrix is important, IMO!
I have a 1st press in minty condition I found without the cover. If anyone has an empty cover they'd be willing to sell me let me know. Og or early pressing only w/out barcode, thanks!
I don't know if you're still looking for a cover but someone's selling one right now!
Comment to question of the 1970 version of The Stooges being the 1st. No that wouldn't be the 1st, as that came out in 1969.
i have a copy of this lp with the same runout matrix numbers, but my copy has the stooges written on the label plus a 1970 elektra inner sleeve. positive this is a first issue?
