I also have inner groove distortion. Otherwise it sounds good. A bit lacking in treble perhaps. Just v slightly. Not bad.
inform
Excellent sounding copy with no issues. Sounds warm with just the right amount of punch in the right places. Vinyl is also very quiet with no pops/clicks or static. What a great rock/jazz fusion classic.
Kage
Mine plays really well, very pleased. Initially had skipping issues but these were related to my new turntable which I have now set up correctly.
Rich Vulture
very glad i checked the reviews before buying another badly made reissue.
Dammy
My copy of this pressing sounds very good but does suffer from IGD at the end of each side
Nalaylewe
Sounds like crap. My dad's copy from 77 that sat in a garage for decades sounds better than this after thoroughly cleaning both. Bad IGD, some pops throughout the title track as well. Very disappointed as this is one of my favorite albums.
Shadowredeemer
No IGD on mine either, quality is good. No noise.
RUsich155
Sounds crisp through out. No IGD on mine. Dead silent. Playing on Technics sl-1500c and a vm540ml. Replaced original bought in the 70s and disappeared in college. Has me wondering if people haven’t adjusted the VTA for the thicker LP.
The Apotheoses of Lacspor
I had this copy recently, but I preferred the sound of my AB1006 R-3 original pressing, so I sold this one on. Not bad, but not nearly as good as the original pressing.
Simple fellow
My copy sounds great except for a bit of noise in the lead-in on both sides. I have been listening hard for the IGD mentioned by some users but I have not noticed anything. Still, I’d appreciate if someone could tell me how such effect is perceived. Thanks.
Larosa
Damned Greg Moore... I have at440 and technics 1210 and on my IDG-resistant setup I also have this inner groove distortion. Definitely fault of cutting the master. I have hundreds of LPs packed almost up to label with no such issues.
Bodwyn
I have the same problem as described by others here, and it sounds "dull" and not crisp like the original.
Celen
Does anyone else think this reissue sounds a bit flat compared to the original? The original is the type of album you use to show off your system. This import reissue does not have same punch. If you are not used to the original I'm sure you would be happy with it. So far I am disappointed after spending $35 for a new copy. Does anyone know of a good website to refer to and get reviews before buying online. In the old days I could have walked this back to the record store and exchanged it for something different.
just one girl
Yep...got that distortion at the end of each side as well. I must say it's kinda off-putting after the crystal clarity and crispness of the first couple of tracks. Nevertheless, an essential purchase, I think.
Marilore
Brilliant reissue of this Great album. Smooth detailed record. Buy with confidence :)
Galubel
My copy of this pressing sounds very good. Like others I did have IGD, although a recent stylus upgrade has cured that.
Forey
Not really stylus issue, I checked on my at44 super tracker but didn't help, the same awful IDG.
Tto
Very nice sound skipped 3 times though due to inner groove distortion on a Technics SL - D3. I haven't had the same issue with many other reissues only RHCP Californication
Steelraven
I have the inner groove distortion problem as well. Hate it. Otherwise, a nice pressing.
Xaluenk
I'm surprised people are getting distortion on a Grundman master. Was thinking about this, will order and if it's bad, it'll go back, thanks for the info!
Lyrtois
Its not cut by Bernie Grundman....its cut by Greg Moore at Masterpiece!
Yar
Sounds great until that inner groove distortion kicks in. Other than that, lovely, punchy, clean sound with very little surface noise and the HQ mp3 download is nice. Still a decent buy.
Gavidor
Hello everyone..well I own a beautiful red vinyl version of this album and it sounds great. I'm thinking about getting the 180 gram reissue but I keep reading about the distortion issue. What other version would you suggest?
Swift Summer
If you are speaking of the canadian red vinyl pressing, i have that and this one...the IGD on deacon blues is pretty noticeable. that said, i do think black cow and aja sound a touch better on this one compared to the red. it's close....close enough that the IGD tips the scales IMO to say skip this one.
Mettiarrb
I bought this because my AA-1006 (with scratched out AB in the matrix) sounded noisy after getting an AT 440MLa cartridge. I wanted a decent clean copy and from what I'd read online, this pressing seemed like an alright deal (no way I could afford a Cisco and I've only ever seen one MoFi, which I was too slow to get).So I was half-way through writing my initial review, which was positive, but then "Deacon Blues" started and I heard the distortion that richbdd01 was talking about and now I'm thrown off. I was actually really impressed by this pressing before that: it's flat, it's more or less centred perfectly and it's quiet. The sound is also very clear and punchy, especially in the bass and drums. But that damn distortion. I'm not sure if I should return this or not, since the 440 might be able to handle it.
watchman
I have at440 and it didn't help, the same IDG, Greg Moore f...ed up the mastering and cutting process.
Ieregr
This sounds really very good apart from some distortion on the inner grooves (approx last 3 mins of each side). I rarely get inner groove distortion so not sure why this cut poses a problem...
Bloodray
Very good sound overall. Compared to the ABC original it has a crisper sound, with vivid clarity, especially the drums and percussion in "Aja". Though it isn't as warm as the original and has somewhat less "air in the room" it is a very nice listening experience. I think anyone who loves this record should enjoy it. Other than a bit of noise in the lead-in my copy plays quietly.
Broadraven
Hi mitchcortes, yeah I bought it about a month ago, its pretty good sounding apart from a bit of excessive surface noise, great album.
Mamuro
Mine had almost no surface noise at all. Sorry to hear. Vinyl is still hit or mis unfortunatly. Hopefully the music shines through enough ;-). Still one of the best albums of all times!
Steel balls
Anyone know if this Back To Black version sounds any good?
Silverbrew
I think this sounds pretty good. Nice mastering. Open, punchy and clear sound. Perfect pressing. Haven't compared with cd or original release yet. But certainly recommended!
