Ronnie James Dio's albums with Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio helped define what a hard rock singer can be. Dio was first introduced to the world stage in 1975 when he and three fellow members of the group Elf were absorbed into former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow. Over three studio albums, Blackmore and Dio worked in perfect harmony, creating grandiose heavy rock enriched by Dios fantastic tales of sword and sorcery: a style later jokingly dubbed castle rock. But in 1978, Dio was out as Blackmore remodelled Rainbow as a mainstream radio-rock act. Within a year, Dio had joined Black Sabbath, replacing the sacked Ozzy Osbourne. Ronnie James Dio is one of the few truly great heavy metal singers. He's not merely a vocalist. Most fans know him from his work with Rainbow, Black Sabbath the vastly underrated early-'80s era, and his solo band, Dio. The English label Connoisseur Collection released Elf's second and third albums, 1974's Carolina County Ball L. These two albums were produced by Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover he and Purple drummer Ian Paice discovered Elf and co-produced their self-titled 1972 debut. The albums in question are 1974s Carolina Country Ball and 1975s Trying To Burn The Sun. There are a few flaws with the package that a lot of people can sometimes have a problem with the artwork doesnt fully replicate either albums artwork, there is a slight audio flaw on one of the tracks and the mastering isnt especially good. Ronnie James Dio was the quintessential heavy metal singer. From his early rock 'n' roll days through his tragic death, he maintained a constant sense of power with his ageless and dominant pipes. Small only in stature, Ronnie's voice guided generations of headbangers with a larger than life presence, weaving together tales of magic and mystery, good and evil, with words that came from a place of wisdom, foresight, truth and honesty. While our beloved icon may be gone, his music will always be a cause for celebration, which is what we aim to do here.
