Hanley with lyrics by Ballard MacDonald that was published in January 1917. Although it is not the state song of Indiana which is On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away, it is perhaps the best-known song that pays tribute to the Hoosier state. The tune was introduced as a Tin Pan Alley pop song of the time. It contains a musical quotation from the already well known On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away, as well as repetition of words. A blue-collar worker on New York's depressed waterfront finds his life changed after he saves a woman attempting suicide. Director: Josef von Sternberg. Yet, the film remains somewhat obscure because it was released in 1928, when the novelty of the first talkies was overshadowing silent films such as Docks. If you are at all interested in film history or just plain good films see The Docks of New York. 46 of 47 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful to you
