Info

London Calling is a song by the British punk rock band the Clash. It was released as a single from the band's 1979 double album London Calling. This apocalyptic, politically charged rant features the band's post-punk sound, electric guitar and vocals. The song was written by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. The title alludes to the BBC World Service's station identification: This is London calling. which was used during World War II, often in broadcasts to occupied countries. London Calling, the third album by English rock band The Clash, was released on December 14, 1979 in the United Kingdom and January of 1980 in the United States. The albums overall theme is post-punk, incorporating a wide variety of music styles including punk, reggae, rockabilly, ska, hard rock, pop, lounge jazz, and New Orleans R&B. London Calling has impressive subject matter coverage topics range from racial conflict, unemployment, and drug use to safe sex, the tragic life of actor Montgomery Clift, and social displacement. Among the iconic album covers recreated were those by Madonna, Adele, Taylor Swift, and David Bowie, among others. Even the carers featured in one of the photos, but the real stars of the 12-part photo series are residents. Sydmar Lodge Care Home in Edgware, near north London has been closed to visitors since March 12 to protect its vulnerable residents from Covid-19. And an idea to keep residents entertained, by recreating iconic album covers featuring the senior citizens, is a hit on the internet. I have the LONDON CALLING shirt, but now I also want the SYDMAR CALLING shirt w Sheila on it haha - Mark Hughes markhughesfilms July 13, 2020. London calling to the imitation zone Forget it brother, you can go it alone London calling to the zombies of death Quit holding out, and draw. London calling at the top of the dial And after all this, won't you give me a smile London calling. I never felt so much alike alike alike alike. London Calling opens the album on an ominous note. When Strummer comes in on the downbeat, he sounds weary, used up, desperate: The Ice Age is comingThe sun is zooming inMeltdown expectedThe wheat is growing thin. The rest of the record never turns its back on that vision of dread. London Calling is spacious and extravagant. Its as packed with characters and incidents as a great novel, and the bands new stylistic expansions - brass, organ, occasional piano, blues grind, pop airiness and the reggae-dub influence that percolates subversively through nearly every number - add density and richness to the sound. London Calling marked not only a maturation for The Clash, but a crucible for punk in general. Hardcore was happening in the States New Wave-a term essentially used to brand pop or rock music with punk energy for a more mainstream audience-marked an evolutionary step away from politics toward neutral fashionability: punk lite, in a way. Two people were responsible for the striking black and white image on The Clashs London Calling. The first was the bands statuesque bass player, Paul Simonon, who is shown driving his bass guitar into the stage of the New York Palladium on September 21, 1979. The show had gone quite well, he recalls, but for me, inside, it just wasnt working well, so I suppose I took it out on the bass. If I was smart, I would have got the spare bass and used that one, because it wasnt as good as the one as I smashed up. When I look at it now, I wish Id lifted my face up a bit more.
