People alledge this came out in 2003, cos of wikipedia.. I wouldnt believe anything on that site, unless M.I.C tell me different Im gonna go by the back of the cd and ignore the know-it-alls that probably discovered this music well after it came out! Monsta Island Czars released an unofficial album called 'The next 1,000 years' in 2001 and most of those tracks were put onto this album. Wikipedia states the album was recorded between 2002-2003.... Don't believe the hype!!

There is a pirate copy of the apparently retail album. According to Monster_Island_Czars-Escape_from_Monsta_Island-2003-CMS0-monster_island_czars-escape_from_monsta_island-2003-cms.nfo: "DATE RiPPED..: 02-20-2003"

By asking who cares about that information you indicate that you don't understand the point behind the very website you are using to catalog your collection. At its core Discogs is about recording the minutia of individual copies of a release and what make them unique. That's why different runout and matrix info or different Pressing plants etc require different listings in the database. Hell slightly different ink colors on jackets and labels warrants unique releases.

https://xraydamindbenda.bandcamp.com/album/escape-from-monsta-islandHere is X-Ray who produced the bulk of the projects bandcamp page. While he cites Feb 18th vs Rhymesayers Feb 5th he himself lists 2003 as the release year. So there it is from the mouths of MIC as you said you wanted right.

Who care when MIC released a different release, the unofficial album your referring to. This particular release came out in February of 2003. That has nothing to do with when the songs originated and everything to do with when MIC secured a deal with Rhymesayers to co-release the album you changed the date on. Doom probably did copyright the release in 2002 but delays to product launches happen or any other number of reasons. And I used wikipedia in conjunction with Rhymesayers own website, the joint releasers of the product so when used in conjunction with another obviously valid source I don't see a problem. And spare me the late to the party shit. Who cares how long we've all been listening to hip hop. I bought my first hip hop mixtape in 1987. Does that validate my statements regarding the release date of this release. I think not.

Look, it's obvious you fancy yourself an expert in the genre (although I would like to point out that the term "indie hip hop" didn't exist at the time of this release, for whatever that's worth), but it doesn't change the fact that copyright date and release date are two entirely different concepts. Naturally an artist would apply for and receive copyrights BEFORE releasing their material to the public. Since this was indisputably released in early 2003 it would only make sense that DOOM applied for copyrights for Metal Face Records in 2002. That is clearly labeled on the back of the record. What is not labeled, and never really is would be the release date. Copyright date in no way indicates the exact release date. I hope this clears things up a bit for you.

This is indie hip hop, things get released and then bigger boxes head out later... When I hear it from MIC ill believe it! Like I said most the tracks were already out on the next 1000 years cd in 2001. They then remove about 5 tracks and replaces em with others and this is put out the following year in my opinion, that makes sense. Who cares anyway, I put it as it was made, who cares how its marketed and the official release date?!
Vit
Rhymesayers lists the release date as 2003. Also, I bought this from Fifth Element (the RSE store in Minneapolis) when it was new.

Someone gave me this and I loved it though I'm not super into hip-hop. It also turned me onto MF DOOM and I really got into his stuff. Rodan really stands out too. Great underground music not heard on the radio, that's my thing and this delivers.
Dont_Wory
Dope beats & ryhmes that has more creativity in its intro than most mainstrean/radio friendly albums have in 20 tracks! Truly 1 for the underground heads. My 1 negative is DOOM only has 1 vocal track but he produces about half the album witch makes up for ut plus the MCs like Rodan who get more time to do thier thing shine thoughout! An overlooked gem of an album! BUY IT/STEAL IT/GET IT! The fact its hatd to find on CD & vinyl only makes it that more appealing
