Mary Chapin Carpenter: все альбомы, включая Between the Dirt and the Stars , Our Man Walter Cronkite , Sometimes Just the Sky и другие. Shooting Straight in the Dark is Mary Chapin Carpenter's third studio album. It was a 11 Country Album on the Billboard Country Albums chart. Four of its tracks became Billboard Hot Country Songs hits: You Win Again at 16, Right Now at 15, Down at the Twist and Shout at 2, and Going Out Tonight at 14. Members of the Cajun band BeauSoleil provide guest instrumentation on Down at the Twist and Shout. Shawn Colvin provided backing vocals on three of the album's songs. Mary Chapin Carpenter's third album perfected her mix of singer-songwriter introspection, storytelling, and the occasional up-tempo mood changer. It spawned a huge country radio hit in the surprisingly durable zydeco romp Down at the Twist and Shout, but the most memorable track is Going Out Tonight, a gutsy, folk-rocking statement of purpose from a brokenhearted woman who's gonna start living again even if it kills her. Although Mary Chapin Carpenter's second album yielded two Top Ten hits, it was the release of 1990's Shooting Straight in the Dark that confirmed her talents as an artist who could easily stage a crossover without relinquishing her country roots. With an even stronger infusion of folk and pop, Carpenter opened herself up to a wider market, taking the Cajun-tinged Down at the Twist and Shout with the help of Beausoleil to number two on the country charts, a song that also netted her a Grammy for best country vocal performance by a female.
