I heard this first on this recording, and then checked the album version - no comparison. Marvin Gaye had a well documented habit, and he ventured down a road which was always ultimately gonna be prohibitive, I just help feeling this man when I listen to this music and feel gutted when I remember his final chapter. Marvin's first European tour yielded this landmark live LP, a 3 album in 1977. Got to Give It Up became a 1 smash, and the rest of the album is just as invigorating, with Let's Get It On medleys featuring What's Going On I Heard It Through the Grapevine Your Precious Love , and more-plus the unreleased I Want You finale Go Unlimited. Gaye has been admittedly ill at ease as a live performer. The 1974 live record, recorded at his first stage appearance in almost five years, found him awkwardly fronting a large orchestra.
