On What Comes After he's a man resigned to what he must do, yet unable to remove from his voice a wavering mix of fear, anger, and regret. Now the world was empty on the day when they made it, he sings over the ramble of opener Dark Don't Hide It. More By Magnolia Electric Co. Fading Trails. Trials & Errors. The Magnolia Electric Co. After Trials and Errors, I was expecting this to be a little more rock oriented and it certainly sounds that way at first, but there's After Trials and Errors, I was expecting this to be a little more rock oriented and it certainly sounds that way at first, but there's actually some pretty mellow, somber Jason Molina. with an acoustic guitar tracks on the second half of the album. Still, it's a great batch of songs. not quite as good as Songs: Ohia'a amazing Magnolia Electric Co. but it's close. 0 of 0 users found this helpful. Jason Molina's first full-band studio effort as Magnolia Electric Co. is caught between roots-rock and ghostly isolation. I was determined not to mention Neil Young in this review, as I've always felt there were more apt comparisons for Jason Molina's voice and instrumentation- plugged and unplugged- but dammit, where there was at least plausible deniability before, now he's announcing his Neil love loud and clear. The first splintered chords of opener The Dark Don't Hide It make it certain who Molina has on his mind- at least on this one song. For what. Recorded By Steve Albini. Featuring Jennie Benford.
