Kwes is best known for his production and collaborative work. He has worked with a variety of artists including Bobby Womack, Damon Albarn, ELIZA, Kano, Kelela, Loyle Carner, Micachu, Nao, Solange, Selah Sue and Tirzah. Kwes is also currently signed to Warp Records as a solo artist and released his debut album, ilp in October 2013. On ilp, Kwes is trying to solve a tough creative riddle: How can an experimental producer with a love for so many different styles of music emphasize his earnest, understated songs while still allowing himself the freedom to explore One strategy that Kwes employs is the seemingly straightforward pop song, rebuilt from the ground up. But ilp falters on its shorter songs. Kwes frequently talks about the need for restraint and its clear thats something that he struggles with in his own work. His songs have habit of getting mired, or lost entirely within the context of his ambient, occasionally overwrought music. Redirected from Ilp Kwes Album. ɪlp is the debut album by record producer and musician Kwes. It was released on 14 October 2013 on Warp Records. Cablecar and Purplehands are the 'listen to' tracks... it's heavy bass production and the switchups / bridge are a nice add on
Woozy avant pop that's a lot more appealing than most other electronic pop that I hear 'nowadays'. I like the way the beats kind of run behind the rhythm. I also like the two different voices he seems to employ... one being a high falsetto and the other a sort of Nick Cave low croon. Actually - he might have three voices as there's a mid-range RnB style in there too.
The arrangements are very imaginative and the production is much better than a lot of other contemporary albums.... the drums aren't brash or pummelling and the keyboard sounds are intriguing. Worthy of repeated listening.
