New York in the 1960s: Sun Blindness Music, better known as Sun Blindness Music, is an album by John Cale released in 2001. It is the first of a loose anthology of experimental albums recorded during Cale's tenure with the Theatre of Eternal Music during the mid-1960s. The pieces included on the album were recorded between 1964 and 1966. Albums following in the anthology include the collaborative effort Day Of Niagara, and the Cale compilations Dream Interpretation and Stainless Gamelan. Each song in. First track from the album released in 2001. Sun Blindness Music is easily the most demanding and perhaps most rewarding piece on the disc. While it is true that Sun Blindness Music isn't for the casual Cale fan, it is a stunning document, offering not only a glimpse into the past of a particular place in time, but also a model for virtually all the popular and underground music that came after it: punk, no-wave, ambient, downtown NY improv, the drone experiments of EAR, later. It's the first disc of three in a series of unearthed Cale compositions from Table of the Elements all released under the heading New York in the 1960s, documenting his solo experiments and collaborations with other members of New York's avant-garde underground. Collecting dust in Tony Conrad's possession for years, these tapes were probably all but forgotten by everyone excepting possibly Conrad and Cale. Some will undoubt. Track Listings. Disc: 1.
