DOWN drummer Jimmy Bower spoke to Extreme Metal Festival News about the bands upcoming shows to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the groups debut album, NOLA. Down supported NOLA with a 13-date concert tour. The band went on hiatus in 1996 as all members continued their main projects. NOLA an acronym for New Orleans, Louisiana takes the two superstars' writing talents and distinctive sounds and focuses them in a feast of Cajun-style heavy metal. Like much of Pantera's music, NOLA is lyrically enigmatic and frequently celebrates the use of controlled substances. Glorification of cannabis aside, the album's true focus is inner melancholy and atonement for earlier sins. Down - Nola 1995. To favorites 25 Download album. Listen album. Heavy Metal Southern Metal. Simply put, this album is in my top five of all time. The only song I hit skip on is "Jail," and that is only because I want to headbang to the next song. Honestly one of the only albums I have heard without a dud song on it.

Got the reissue on this one yesterday! The bad news first...the cover is piss-poor. No gatefold, very flimsy, poorly put together, an insert that is blurry & hard to read, not very much detail able to made out in the pictures. Certainly disappointed with that after waiting 9 months after ordering this before finally getting it. OK, the good news...the 180g black vinyl sounds great! So much so, this piece boasters the argument that black (180g?) vinyl has superior sound quality to any other variation. In short...if you are looking to have "NOLA" on vinyl, but do not want to pay the large price tag for the original pressing....the 2016 reissue should do you well.
