First Light A decade-plus on the road, near-constant musical output, and shifting creative priorities caused the revered Austin duo, comprised of multi-instrumentalists Rob Lowe and Michael Muller, to soberly assess the band's future. first the good news - the outer cover is made from heavy card stock that looks and feels good in the hand. the download card is postcard-esque with art and credit info on the one side and the d/l code on the other. the bad news is (and this label's no stranger to low quality when it comes to pressings) my copy is warped a bit more than usual. dished b-side, bigly. why is it whenever I order from these folks they always seem to send me the ones that shouldn't pass QC? surface noise is prevalent throughout side a. starting most notable (vg) on A3 with A5 ending in a "storm of static" (SOS). distracting. disappointing. shame on.... b-side fairs no better than the flip. "First Light's" seemingly derisive ending may or may not be coincidental (seeing as they've been on this label for many years). what's all the more maddening is that it's mastered really well. music like this "demands" dead quiet vinyl. flat would be nice too. is that to much to ask?Western Vinyl as a sublabel of SC Distribution - whos label family are notorious for low quality vinyl releases most notably from these bad things: Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar, Merge Records, Secretly Canadian, Paradise Of Bachelors, are shining examples of why vinyl sales are declining.
